Confession: I am a HUGE shopaholic. I can't go into a store without at least buying one item, only for it to be worn once or to sit in my closet with the price tag still on. It has gotten so bad that I’ve filled up three closets in my house, and they are all overflowing with unnecessary purchases.
I've contemplated several times on selling said clothing and accessories, but I always found it awkward to try to sell my clothes to my friends, and I was far too scared to put anything up on kijiji or Craigslist (I mean, we’ve all heard the horror stories of meet-ups!). There was also the option of consignment shops, but the return rate was so low, I figured it would be better to just donate the clothes or let them sit in my closet in the hopes that one day I would find the perfect occasion to wear them.
I was losing hope until I came across Trend Trunk, an online consignment shop that pretty much does the work for you. The Canadian start-up company was recently featured on Dragon’s Den, and while the deal ultimately didn’t go through, they seemed to have caught the attention of women across Canada who all suffer from the same problem – too many clothes & nothing to wear (myself included!)
The cool thing about Trend Trunk is that they manage the payment and shipping for you, and you still get 80 per cent of the sale! All you have to do is post a photo of your item with a short description (NOTE: a full service solution is coming soon, where they will do all of this for you!) and set a selling price!
Once you have a buyer, Trend Trunk will send you an email with a pre-addressed and pre-paid shipping label for you to print/pack/ship with no hassle. The money will go straight into your Trend Trunk account, and from there you can either shop items from other Trend Trunk users, or transfer the money into your own bank account. There is also the option to donate up to 100 per cent of your net sale to any charity in Canada through Trend Trunk’s Closets & Causes program (so you can look good, and feel good at the same time!)
Along with all this great stuff, Trend Trunk also has a mobile app in the works (to make posting that much easier), and will soon have certified stylists on board to help you sell your items. I don't know about you, but I think Trend Trunk may just be the saving grace for fashionistas/shopaholics across Canada.
